Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid solemn tribute to the victims of the Holocaust during his visit to Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre in Jerusalem. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the memorial, honouring the memory of millions who perished in one of humanity’s darkest chapters.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior Israeli officials. He toured the Holocaust Memorial and Museum, which documents and preserves the history of the genocide and serves as a global symbol of remembrance, resilience and moral responsibility.
The visit included a walk through the Book of Names, a powerful installation that records the identities of millions of Jewish victims, and a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance. Prime Minister Modi also signed the Yad Vashem guest book, reflecting on the enduring lessons of history and the universal responsibility to stand against hatred, intolerance and injustice.
This marked Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Yad Vashem, reaffirming India’s deep respect for historical memory and its solidarity with the Jewish people. His earlier visit to the memorial during a previous state visit had similarly underscored India’s commitment to upholding human dignity and collective conscience.
The Prime Minister’s tribute highlighted the importance of remembering the past not merely as history, but as a guide for building a more just, compassionate and peaceful world. The visit resonated strongly as a reaffirmation of shared values between India and Israel, rooted in democracy, pluralism and respect for human life.
Prime Minister Modi is on a State Visit to Israel, during which he has held high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across strategic, technological and cultural domains. His visit to Yad Vashem stood out as a moment of reflection, symbolising India’s enduring commitment to remembrance, moral clarity and global peace.
