Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined in paying homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, quoting Patel’s words about the strength of a united people. Kharge celebrated Patel’s role as the Iron Man of India, the first Deputy Prime Minister, and former Congress President, crediting him with making independent India a cohesive nation. Kharge expressed confidence that Patel’s personality and thoughts would continue to inspire future generations in serving the nation.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, born on October 31, 1875, in Gujarat’s Nadiad, played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and led the integration of over 500 princely states into the Indian Union. Serving as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India, Patel passed away on December 15, 1950, after suffering a heart attack at Birla House in Mumbai. He was posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1991.
