Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s growing aspirations and the increasing demand for swift long-distance travel, stating that the introduction of high-speed trains is a key response. He emphasized that the arrival of India’s first bullet train is imminent, adding that the government is taking major strides in improving the nation’s transportation infrastructure.
During the virtual inauguration of multiple projects, including the formation of Jammu’s new railway division, Modi referred to the creation of Jammu division as a “monumental step,” marking it as the 70th railway division in the country. This coincides with the inauguration of the Katra-Reasi railway section and the launch of the Vande Bharat train to Srinagar.
On the modernization of India’s railways, the PM pointed to the introduction of advanced facilities such as Vande Bharat trains, Amrit Bharat stations, and Namo Bharat rail services, setting new standards for the Indian rail sector. He also mentioned a recent trial of the new sleeper version of Vande Bharat, which reached speeds of 180 km/h, a milestone that fills the nation with pride. These advancements mark just the beginning, he said, as the first bullet train in India is on the horizon.
Modi outlined a four-fold strategy for rail modernization: improving infrastructure, providing modern amenities for passengers, enhancing connectivity across the nation, and fostering job creation and industry support through railways. Work on projects like the Dedicated Freight Corridor is progressing rapidly, which will alleviate pressure on regular tracks and open up more opportunities for high-speed rail operations.
In terms of the railway expansion in Jammu and Kashmir, Modi emphasized the completion of the Chenab Bridge as a crucial development, connecting the region to the rest of India and providing greater convenience for the people of Leh-Ladakh. He concluded by underscoring that these projects form part of a larger vision for a developed India, a goal that now resonates with every citizen.
