A delegation-level meeting took place in New Delhi between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, aimed at bolstering bilateral relations between the two nations. During the discussions, both leaders oversaw the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on humanitarian aid, restoration of Mongolian heritage sites, cooperation in immigration, geology, and mineral resources, promotion of cooperatives, and sharing digital solutions. The occasion also marked the release of commemorative stamps celebrating 70 years of India-Mongolia diplomatic ties.
In a joint press conference, Prime Minister Modi announced that India will offer free e-visas to Mongolian citizens and sponsor the annual visit of young cultural ambassadors from Mongolia. He emphasized that the relationship extends beyond diplomacy, reflecting a deep spiritual and cultural connection. Highlighting the role of Nalanda University in spreading Buddhism in Mongolia, Modi stated that India and Mongolia will strengthen the link between Nalanda and Gandan Monastery to infuse new energy into their historic partnership.
The Indian Prime Minister further noted India’s commitment as a reliable partner in Mongolia’s development. He highlighted the ongoing Oil Refinery Project, financed through India’s $1.7 billion line of credit, which is expected to significantly enhance Mongolia’s energy security.
President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa expressed gratitude to India and Prime Minister Modi for the comprehensive support provided in implementing the oil refinery project. He also described the MoU on digital cooperation as a landmark step in strengthening bilateral ties.
The Mongolian President arrived in New Delhi yesterday for a four-day official visit, which included a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Today, he is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where a state banquet will be hosted in his honor. Accompanying President Khurelsukh is a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, members of Parliament, senior officials, business leaders, and cultural representatives. This marks President Khurelsukh’s first visit to India in his capacity as Mongolia’s head of state.
