Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, emphasizing that relations between India and Egypt continue to grow “from strength to strength.” Modi commended Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, referring to him as “a friend,” and expressed deep appreciation for his significant role in facilitating the Gaza Peace Agreement.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Pleased to receive Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty. Conveyed deep appreciation for my friend, President Sisi, for his crucial role in the Gaza Peace Agreement. India-Egypt Strategic Partnership continues to grow from strength to strength for the benefit of our people, our shared region, and humanity.”
Dr. Abdelatty is on a two-day visit to India, during which he met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. On Thursday, he co-chaired the first India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue with Jaishankar—a meeting described as a “milestone” in bilateral relations.
Jaishankar highlighted that since the elevation of ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2023, cooperation has deepened across multiple sectors, including defence, trade, renewable energy, digital innovation, and investment. The ministers also discussed key regional and global developments, stressing the importance of stability in West Asia and advancing the Global South’s collective voice in global decision-making.
Jaishankar also acknowledged Egypt’s solidarity following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, mentioning that PM Modi and President Sisi had promptly spoken after the tragedy.
During his remarks, Dr. Abdelatty said that the inaugural strategic dialogue mirrored the shared vision of both leaders to maximize the partnership’s potential. He noted, “This is a testament to our leaders’ commitment since signing the Strategic Partnership Agreement in June 2023. We are united by history, geography, and shared interests—but we must do more for our people.”
Calling for greater economic collaboration, Abdelatty urged both nations to encourage business communities to pursue joint ventures and trade opportunities, describing such engagement as a “win-win” pathway. Earlier in the day, the Egyptian minister met Indian business leaders and CEOs investing or exploring prospects in Egypt, reinforcing the commitment to stronger commercial and strategic ties between the two nations.
