Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu engaged in bilateral talks at Hyderabad House on Monday, followed by delegation-level discussions. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were among the Indian delegates attending the talks.
Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, posted on X, highlighting the significance of the meeting, stating that Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed President Muizzu and that extensive discussions on strengthening India-Maldives ties were held.
President Muizzu, who arrived in India on Sunday for a five-day official visit, was given a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier in the day. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi greeted the Maldivian President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed upon their arrival. The Maldivian delegation also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, where President Muizzu signed the visitors’ book after offering his respects.
On Sunday, Muizzu was welcomed by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kiriti Vardhan Singh, marking the start of his visit, which was made at the invitation of President Murmu. During the meetings, Jaishankar and Muizzu emphasized fostering and maintaining the strong ties between India and the Maldives. They reviewed ongoing initiatives supported by India and explored potential new areas of cooperation that align with the Maldives’ development goals.
Additionally, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed interacted with the Maldivian community residing in New Delhi during their visit.
