On October 29, a series of transformative healthcare projects worth around $1.53 billion (Rs. 12,850 crore) were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi. This inauguration coincided with Dhanvantari Jayanti and the 9th Ayurveda Day. A notable aspect of the event was the extension of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) to include all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of income, marking a significant advancement towards affordable healthcare for everyone.
In his efforts to expand the Ayush sector, Modi inaugurated Phase II of the AIIA, which features a Panchakarma hospital, an Ayurvedic pharmacy, a sports medicine unit, and an IT and start-up incubation center. He also launched three new medical colleges located in Mandsaur, Neemuch, and Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, upgrades were unveiled at various All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across multiple states. The Prime Minister inaugurated new hospitals within the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) network and introduced drone-based healthcare services at 11 institutions.
To enhance vaccination management for pregnant women and children, he launched the U-WIN portal. Furthermore, he initiated the ‘Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan,’ a national health awareness campaign that focuses on the effects of climate change on public health, thereby strengthening healthcare resilience across India.
