Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings on Thursday to mark Teachers’ Day, acknowledging the critical role educators play in shaping society and strengthening the nation’s future. In a message shared on X, Modi expressed his gratitude to teachers, calling them the foundation of a brighter tomorrow.
He wrote, “Wishing everyone, particularly all hardworking teachers, a very happy Teachers’ Day! The commitment of teachers to nurturing minds paves the way for a stronger and brighter future.” Modi also paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a Bharat Ratna awardee, former President of India, and revered scholar, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.
Teachers’ Day, observed annually on September 5, commemorates Dr. Radhakrishnan’s immense contributions to education and society. His vision and life continue to inspire generations of learners and educators across India.
As part of the day’s celebrations, Prime Minister Modi interacted with the teachers who received the National Awards for their excellence this year. At the meeting, he applauded their dedication and urged them to encourage students to embrace self-reliance. He highlighted the importance of reducing dependence on foreign products, noting that even small awareness campaigns by teachers could spark significant change. “Children should make a list of the foreign goods they use daily. With your guidance, an entire generation can be motivated toward self-reliance,” Modi said, recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-sufficiency.
Congratulating the award-winning teachers, the Prime Minister praised their relentless efforts. “Your recognition reflects your consistent hard work and devotion. A teacher not only shapes the present but also molds future generations. He polishes the future,” he remarked.
Emphasizing India’s deep-rooted guru-disciple tradition, Modi likened the teaching profession to service to the nation. He explained that teachers, like mothers, play a pivotal role in giving life and direction. “A mother gives birth, but a guru gives life. As we work toward a developed India, our guru-disciple tradition remains one of our strongest pillars. Teachers are the foundation of a strong nation and an empowered society,” he affirmed.
The day concluded with a reaffirmation of the essential place educators hold in India’s cultural fabric and future growth. Modi’s words reflected gratitude, inspiration, and a call to strengthen the spirit of nation-building through education.
