Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov on Thursday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, fertilisers, connectivity, and people-to-people ties. The discussion also focused on advancing the outcomes of the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, which took place during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December last year.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister said he was pleased to meet Manturov and highlighted their discussions on mutually beneficial cooperation. He welcomed the continued efforts by both nations to implement the decisions and initiatives agreed upon at the recent summit.
Earlier in the day, Manturov briefed the Prime Minister on progress in key areas, including economic partnerships, trade enhancement, and strengthening ties in fertilisers and connectivity. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi expressed satisfaction with the efforts being made by both sides to consolidate the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. He also extended warm greetings to President Putin, expressing anticipation for continued exchanges between the two leaders.
Manturov also met Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss further strengthening trade and investment ties. The Finance Ministry confirmed that the meeting included dialogue on various issues of mutual interest, reflecting ongoing collaboration between India and Russia.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister arrived in Delhi early Thursday for a series of high-level consultations covering defence, energy, trade, and other bilateral matters. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Manturov, noting his role as co-chair of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.
During his visit, Manturov is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participate in additional bilateral discussions aimed at reinforcing cooperation across multiple sectors and deepening strategic ties between the two countries.
