On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Chile’s President Gabriel Boric Font at Hyderabad House, as confirmed by Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal. The leaders are set to hold extensive talks to enhance and expand the strong bilateral ties between India and Chile.
Font, earlier in the day, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, signing the visitors’ book in tribute to the iconic leader. He shared on X, “Along with our delegation, we paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi. His legacy teaches us that India and Chile not only share common interests and future opportunities but also deeply rooted shared values.”
Jaiswal further commented on the gesture, noting Font’s tribute as an acknowledgment of Gandhi’s enduring message of peace and non-violence. He emphasized the shared values between India and Chile, reinforcing the strong bilateral bond.
President Boric’s delegation, consisting of ministers, parliamentarians, business leaders, and experts in innovation and culture, is in India to strengthen ties. Font noted that the visit signifies a significant occasion for deepening India-Chile relations.
Font also began his State visit by meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, reaffirming Chile’s commitment to furthering bilateral ties. His visit, scheduled from April 1-5, is focused on enhancing economic, political, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
