On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial strategy meeting in Parliament as the Monsoon session commenced, setting the stage for intense political activity over the coming weeks. The meeting brought together senior BJP figures including Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and other prominent leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kiren Rijiju, and Arjun Meghwal.
According to sources, the discussions revolved around key issues likely to dominate the session, with particular focus on the opposition’s demand that the Prime Minister personally address the House regarding “Operation Sindoor.” Reports suggest Modi was briefed on the proceedings of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) and the opposition’s insistence on his direct involvement in debates, particularly those concerning national security and recent events in Kashmir.
The Monsoon session, which started Monday and runs until August 21, includes 21 sittings over 32 days, with a scheduled break between August 12 and August 18. Before the session began, Prime Minister Modi described the session as a “Vijay Utsav,” celebrating what he called India’s growing military prowess. Highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor, Modi stated that the Indian Army met its objective within 22 minutes by demolishing terrorist strongholds. He emphasized that the global community has taken notice of India’s “Made in India” defense capabilities, showing heightened interest in domestically-produced weapons.
Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc, led by Congress, has outlined eight pressing issues they plan to raise during the session. These include the Pahalgam terror attack and concerns over the special revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The first day of the session saw turmoil, with opposition leaders submitting adjournment motions that were ultimately rejected. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government for not allowing opposition voices in the House, despite government ministers being given floor time.
