Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, focusing on ways to further strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries. The discussions reflected the growing importance of cooperation between India and Finland across multiple sectors, including trade, technology, education, and global diplomacy.
During the meeting, both leaders explored opportunities to deepen bilateral engagement and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The talks covered a wide range of issues aimed at expanding economic and strategic ties while also strengthening people-to-people connections between the two nations. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, highlighting the importance of cooperation in multilateral forums.
President Stubb’s visit to India marks a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between the two countries. It is his first official visit to India since assuming office and comes at a time when India and Finland are seeking to expand collaboration in emerging technologies, innovation, and sustainable development.
Ahead of the bilateral talks, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the Finnish President and discussed the prospects of strengthening India-Finland relations. The meeting set the stage for broader discussions between the two governments aimed at enhancing diplomatic and economic engagement.
During his stay in the national capital, President Stubb paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, underscoring the shared democratic values that form the foundation of India-Finland relations. The visit also includes participation in the Raisina Dialogue, where the Finnish President is scheduled to deliver the keynote address as the Chief Guest.
The three-day state visit includes several high-level engagements with Indian leadership. President Stubb is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan during his time in New Delhi.
Following his engagements in the capital, the Finnish leader will travel to Mumbai where he will interact with business leaders and participate in an India-Finland business event aimed at boosting trade and investment cooperation. He will also address students at the University of Mumbai, highlighting the growing academic and educational exchanges between the two countries.
India and Finland share warm and multifaceted relations rooted in democratic values and a shared commitment to innovation and sustainable growth. Finland is considered an important partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region, and both countries continue to explore new avenues for cooperation in technology, industry, and global governance.
