Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a keynote address at the Economic Times World Leaders Forum in New Delhi on August 31, 2024, outlining India’s transformative journey and future aspirations. Modi emphasised that India’s mantra of “Reform, Perform, and Transform” has been instrumental in driving progress. He highlighted that over the past decade, approximately 250 million people have emerged from poverty, creating a new middle class, and attributed this success to sustained economic reforms and growth.
In his speech, Modi noted that India’s economy has outpaced global growth, with a 90% increase in the past decade compared to the global economy’s 35% growth. He attributed this success to the government’s commitment to reform and progress. The Prime Minister praised the government’s achievements over the last ten years, emphasising that they have positively impacted millions of citizens. Modi expressed confidence in the continuity of these reforms, which have fostered a renewed belief among the Indian populace in their government’s capabilities and intentions.
Modi highlighted India’s recent achievements, including the development of key infrastructure projects and support for various sectors. He mentioned the construction of the Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra, new industrial cities, high-speed corridors, and metro expansions as part of the government’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and enhance connectivity. The launch of three new Vande Bharat trains was also noted as a step towards improving transportation and comfort.
The Prime Minister discussed the government’s focus on creating modern infrastructure and advancing connectivity through expressways and air travel enhancements. He introduced the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan aimed at integrating infrastructure development efforts across different government departments to boost economic growth and employment opportunities.
Modi emphasised the need for India to become a global manufacturing hub and highlighted the government’s support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He pointed to initiatives like industrial parks and economic corridors, which have bolstered production and innovation.
Looking ahead, Modi shared the government’s vision for India’s future, including its commitment to green energy with an ambitious goal to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen and generate 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. He also stressed the importance of tourism, highlighting efforts to enhance India’s appeal as a top travel destination.
The Prime Minister concluded his address by reaffirming the government’s commitment to making India a developed nation by 2047. He encouraged citizens and stakeholders to collaborate in this journey, underscoring that India’s prosperity will contribute to global prosperity. Modi urged everyone to embrace innovation, inclusion, and international cooperation to achieve these goals.
