Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the victory of Operation Vijay in 1999. This event marks the end of the Kargil War between India and Pakistan, which began in May 1999. During the conflict, Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and militants.
The day honors the bravery of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation and celebrates the determination and strength of the Indian armed forces. Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a tribute to their sacrifices and reaffirms the nation’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and integrity.
This year, the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas will be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on July 26.
