PM Modi expressed deep concern over the assault on his friend, former President Donald Trump, strongly condemning the incident. He emphasized that violence has no place in political arenas or democracies and wished Trump a swift recovery.
He also extended solidarity to the American people, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured, and the American people.”
At a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump spoke to his supporters, a gunman attempted to assassinate him, leading to the death of one spectator and injuries to two others. The US Secret Service promptly neutralized the shooter, while Trump sustained a non-serious injury to his ear.
Describing the harrowing moment, Trump recounted on his social media platform, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong.”
Despite the incident, Trump, with bloodied face from the injury, defiantly gestured “fight” before being safely evacuated from the venue.
Trump remains a frontrunner in the presidential race despite the attack, which US authorities are investigating for further details about the shooter’s identity and motive.
