Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a tea garden in Dibrugarh, Assam, on Wednesday, ahead of two scheduled public rallies in the poll-bound state. Highlighting the cultural and economic significance of Assam’s tea, he described it as the “soul of Assam” and acknowledged the vital contribution of tea garden families to the state’s pride and heritage.
Sharing updates on social media, PM Modi mentioned that he spent time interacting with women workers at the garden, calling the experience “very memorable.” He also shared photographs and a selfie with the women, emphasizing their hard work, dedication, and role in promoting Assam tea globally. According to the Assam State Portal, the state produces around 630–700 million kilograms of tea annually, accounting for more than half of India’s total output.
As part of his poll campaign, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a rally in Gogamukh, Dhemaji, at 11 a.m., followed by another in Biswanath district at 1 p.m. Senior BJP leaders and state ministers are expected to attend both events. During these rallies, Modi will campaign for BJP candidates Ranoj Pegu and Naba Kumar Doley in Dhemaji and Dhakuakha constituencies, as well as former minister Pallab Lochan Das in Behali.
All 126 assembly seats in Assam will go to polls on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. These elections coincide with assembly results in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Since 2016, the BJP-led NDA has been in power in Assam, following its first assembly election victory in the state.
PM Modi’s visit to the tea garden combines cultural appreciation with electoral engagement, showcasing the BJP’s outreach to local communities while highlighting Assam’s tea industry on a national and global stage. Through these interactions, the Prime Minister reinforced the importance of the tea sector and the contributions of women workers, ahead of critical assembly elections in the state.
