Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of Brunei and Singapore as key partners in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision, expressing optimism that his visits will bolster New Delhi’s ties with these nations and the broader ASEAN region.
PM Modi embarked on a three-day visit to Brunei and Singapore, beginning with Brunei on September 3-4, followed by Singapore on September 5.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi remarked, “Over the next two days, I will be visiting Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. My engagements in these countries will focus on deepening India’s connections with them.”
This visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Brunei, coinciding with the celebration of 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. During his stay in Brunei, Modi will meet Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other prominent members of the Royal family.
In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said, “Today, I begin my first-ever bilateral visit to Brunei Darussalam. As we mark 40 years of our diplomatic relations, I look forward to meeting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family to elevate our historic relationship to new heights.”
After Brunei, Modi will head to Singapore, where he plans to meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and other key leaders. He mentioned that these discussions would aim to further enhance the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership.
After visiting Brunei, Modi will head to Singapore on September 4, where he looks forward to meeting President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. He also plans to connect with key figures from Singapore’s vibrant business community.
He added, “I look forward to our discussions to deepen our Strategic Partnership with Singapore, especially in areas like advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development.”
Modi reiterated that Brunei and Singapore are crucial partners in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision.
