Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 74th birthday on September 17th, adding another remarkable year to his long tenure in public service. Like previous years, this occasion was marked with various development activities. Modi travelled to Odisha, where he launched several key initiatives and laid the foundation stones for important projects. His birthday also coincides with the start of ‘Seva Parv,’ a two-week-long festival organised annually by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to honour his dedication to public service and welfare.
Born in Mehsana, Gujarat, on September 17, 1950, Modi has had an illustrious political career, serving as Gujarat’s chief minister for three consecutive terms before becoming India’s Prime Minister. Now in his third term as Prime Minister, Modi continues to lead various initiatives that emphasise community service. As part of the ‘Seva Pakhwara,’ BJP workers and supporters nationwide organise blood donation camps and cleanliness drives in schools, hospitals, and public spaces.
During his Odisha visit, Prime Minister Modi launched the Subhadra Yojana, a women-focused scheme providing financial assistance to eligible women between 21 and 60 years of age. The scheme will offer $600 over five years to more than 10 million women, with annual instalments of $120 credited directly to their bank accounts. Along with this, Modi inaugurated several railway and highway projects worth over $46 million and distributed the first instalment of PMAY-G assistance to nearly 1 million beneficiaries across 14 states.
In previous years, PM Modi has used his birthday to unveil significant initiatives. In 2023, he launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to empower artisans, as well as the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) and the extension of the Delhi Airport Express Line. In 2022, Modi marked his birthday by releasing cheetahs brought from Namibia into Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park as part of ‘Project Cheetah,’ and introduced the National Logistics Policy. In 2021, the country administered a record-breaking 22 million COVID-19 vaccine doses on his birthday to boost India’s inoculation drive.
Though the pandemic limited celebrations in 2020, Modi’s birthday was still marked by the BJP’s ‘Seva Saptah’ initiative, providing essential services to the underprivileged. In earlier years, Modi participated in the ‘Namami Narmada’ festival in Gujarat in 2019, and in 2018, he spent time with school children in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. His birthdays are consistently marked by public service initiatives and development projects, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the nation.
