Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated a landmark occasion as Startup India reached its tenth anniversary, coinciding with National Startup Day. On this special day, he extended his congratulations to all stakeholders driving India’s startup ecosystem.
Posting on social media, PM Modi highlighted the decade-long journey of Startup India, praising the courage, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of India’s youth, who have played a pivotal role in establishing the country as a global startup hub. He emphasized that the movement has empowered young innovators to take risks, solve problems, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economic progress.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the startup ecosystem by collaborating with all stakeholders, including mentors, incubators, investors, and academic institutions. He remarked that their guidance and support have been instrumental in fostering innovation and encouraging young entrepreneurs to explore ambitious sectors, including space and defense, through the reforms initiated by the government.
Launched on January 16, 2016, Startup India was designed as a transformative national initiative to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment-driven growth. Its mission has been to create a culture of job creators rather than job seekers, and over the past decade, it has become a cornerstone of India’s economic and innovation architecture.
The program has enhanced institutional support, expanded access to capital, and created mentorship opportunities, providing a nurturing environment for startups across industries and regions. Today, India’s startup ecosystem has witnessed remarkable growth, with over 200,000 startups recognized nationwide. These enterprises have become vital contributors to employment generation, innovation-led economic growth, and the strengthening of domestic value chains across diverse sectors.
As Startup India completes ten years, PM Modi’s remarks underscored the nation’s ambition to continue fostering entrepreneurship, harnessing youth talent, and reinforcing India’s position as a global innovation leader.
