Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Chile an “important friend and partner” in Latin America during President Gabriel Boric Font’s first official visit to India. The leaders engaged in extensive discussions at Hyderabad House, identifying new avenues for cooperation in trade, strategic partnerships, and research initiatives.
Highlighting Chile’s geographic significance, PM Modi described the country as India’s gateway to Antarctica. A letter of intent was signed to enhance collaboration in this domain, reinforcing India’s commitment to scientific research and exploration in the region.
The two nations also emphasized expanding bilateral trade relations, particularly through a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. PM Modi underscored the focus on critical minerals, aiming to build resilient supply and value chains.
Cultural and educational ties were also strengthened, with PM Modi welcoming Chile’s decision to declare November 4 as National Yoga Day. Additionally, both countries agreed to boost student exchange programs and simplify visa procedures to facilitate academic and cultural interactions.
President Boric’s visit also set the stage for increased cooperation in digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, railways, and space technology. The discussions underscored India’s readiness to share expertise across various sectors, including healthcare and agriculture.
PM Modi highlighted the deep-rooted cultural connections between India and Chile, noting the growing interest in Indian films and classical dance among Chileans. A new cultural exchange program agreement was also reached.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties, ensuring a robust and dynamic partnership for the future.
