Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the all-India conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar this Saturday.
The three-day event, which commenced on Friday, focuses on vital national security topics such as counter-terrorism, Left Wing Extremism, coastal security, new criminal laws, and narcotics. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the conference aims to provide a platform for senior police officers and security officials to openly discuss various national security issues and address operational and infrastructural challenges faced by the police force.
A key agenda of the conference is tackling internal security threats and sharing best practices for managing crime and maintaining law and order. The PMO highlighted that since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi has emphasized organizing the annual conference across different parts of the country. Previous editions have been hosted in cities like Guwahati, Rann of Kachchh, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Kevadiya, Pune, Lucknow, New Delhi, and Jaipur. This year, Bhubaneswar serves as the venue.
The statement underscored PM Modi’s active involvement and interest in these conferences, noting his practice of listening attentively and encouraging open dialogue to foster new ideas. The conference includes unique features such as yoga sessions, breakout meetings, and thematic discussions to ensure comprehensive use of time.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Principal Secretary to the PM P.K. Mishra, and various state and union territory DGPs, along with central police chiefs, were present on Friday. This event allows senior police leaders to directly share their insights and suggestions with PM Modi, contributing to the nation’s internal security framework.
