During Republic Day 2026 celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his ceremonial entrance at Kartavya Path near India Gate in the Range Rover Sentinel, a vehicle renowned for its combination of cutting-edge engineering, luxury, and top-tier security features. The SUV is a central component of the Prime Minister’s motorcade, deployed during national events and state functions to guarantee maximum protection.
Under the hood, the Sentinel is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine delivering 380 hp. Despite a kerb weight exceeding 4.4 tonnes, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in about 10.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 193 kmph, ensuring rapid response capabilities during high-security operations.
The vehicle is a heavily armoured iteration of the standard Range Rover, featuring VR8-level ballistic certification capable of withstanding 7.62 mm armour-piercing rounds. Its blast-resistant construction is engineered to survive lateral explosions equivalent to 15 kg of TNT and to endure grenade attacks from both above and below. Additional protective measures include an onboard fire suppression system, an independent oxygen supply for smoke or gas emergencies, and a public address system for communication during critical situations.
While prioritizing safety, the Sentinel does not compromise on comfort and technology. The interior features Land Rover’s Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with dual 10-inch high-resolution touchscreens, providing seamless control over navigation, climate, and entertainment functions. The cabin design emphasizes luxury, ensuring that the Prime Minister’s travel is both secure and comfortable, even during extended journeys or official engagements.
With its blend of formidable protection, high performance, and refined interiors, the Range Rover Sentinel exemplifies the balance of security and sophistication required for the Prime Minister’s official duties, making it an indispensable part of India’s top-level state ceremonies.
