On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in extensive discussions with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam. Chinh’s visit, which began with his arrival in Delhi on Tuesday night, is a three-day diplomatic mission aimed at enhancing the robust ties between the two nations.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on ‘X’ that PM Modi extended a warm reception to PM Chinh at Hyderabad House. The talks were centered around invigorating the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting the strengthening relationship between the countries.
In recent years, the strategic relationship between India and Vietnam has seen significant growth. A notable milestone occurred in July of the previous year when India gifted the operational missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam, marking the first time India provided a fully operational warship to another nation. This gesture underscored the expanding defense and strategic collaboration amidst shared concerns over China’s assertive stance in the South China Sea.
Vietnam, a key member of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), has ongoing territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea. India, with its own oil exploration projects in the region, has been working closely with Vietnam to bolster maritime security and safeguard mutual interests.
