Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on their groundbreaking ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory, celebrating the achievement as a moment of immense national pride. Speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, he opened his address by acknowledging the team’s extraordinary performance, saying, “Before I talk about science, I must celebrate India’s remarkable victory in cricket.”
He continued, “The entire nation is overjoyed with this success. This is India’s first Women’s World Cup title, and we are all proud of our players. Their dedication and courage will inspire millions of young people to pursue their dreams in sports.”
Earlier, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his excitement, calling it a “spectacular win” and praising the team’s “exceptional skill, confidence, and teamwork.” His message read, “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed remarkable unity and determination throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”
President Droupadi Murmu also joined in celebrating the team’s achievement. In a heartfelt post on X, she wrote, “My heartiest congratulations to each member of the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025! They have created history by winning it for the first time. This watershed moment will elevate women’s cricket to even greater heights. I admire how these players have made the nation proud.”
The triumph ended India’s decades-long wait for a world title after near misses in 2005 and 2017. In the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, India delivered a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa. Shafali Verma dazzled with an 87-run knock and two wickets, while Deepti Sharma’s all-round brilliance—scoring 58 runs and taking 5 wickets—sealed India’s dominance.
The Women in Blue’s triumph not only fulfilled a long-cherished dream but also united the nation in celebration. As both the Prime Minister and President emphasized, this historic moment will echo for generations, inspiring countless young girls to step forward and script their own success stories in Indian cricket.
