The prime minister announced India’s significant achievements in poverty alleviation, reporting that over 250 million people have risen above poverty levels in the past decade. Moreover, India provides free food grains to 800 million citizens and extends health insurance to 550 million people, ensuring broad social support. Recent expansions in health coverage include free insurance for 60 million senior citizens aged 70 and above.
Modi elaborated on India’s contributions to global food security, including initiatives to combat malnutrition and strengthen agricultural resilience. He highlighted India’s focus on natural and organic farming, as well as the development of over 2,000 climate-resilient crop varieties. Digital innovations like the “Digital Agriculture Mission” further underscore India’s commitment to combining tradition with technology for sustainable agricultural practices.
Reiterating India’s leadership, Modi called for reforms in global governance institutions to amplify the voices of underrepresented nations. He also celebrated the launch of a global alliance to tackle poverty and hunger, supported by 80 nations, describing it as a significant step toward ensuring food security worldwide.
