Parineeti Chopra is set to reunite with Akshay Kumar for the film “Mission Raniganj,” where they will bring the real-life story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill to the big screen. While promoting the movie, Parineeti also reflected on her previous work, including the YRF romantic drama “Meri Pyaari Bindu,” in which she starred opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
“Meri Pyaari Bindu” received love for its music but initially struggled to attract a broad theater-going audience and did not perform well at the box office. However, over time, the film gained a dedicated following among Bollywood romance drama fans. Parineeti discussed the film’s timing, mentioning that it was released alongside the blockbuster “Baahubali,” which affected its initial reception. She shared in an interview with Radio Nasha, “Meri Pyaari Bindu released alongside Baahubali and hence did not get love then. But that’s the film that I get the most love for today. And that’s what matters.”
She added, “Every film gets its own life somehow. I feel, somewhere or the other, the audience will find it. I don’t think any film goes unnoticed, whether good or bad. There are some films that will not do well at the box office. However, over time, audiences will continue to view it, turning it into a cult classic. Conversely, some films succeed due to timing rather than cinematic quality.
In “Meri Pyaari Bindu,” Parineeti played the role of Bindu, an aspiring singer, while Ayushmann Khurrana portrayed her neighbor, Abhimanyu Roy, who falls in love with her. The film explores their journey of friendship, love, breakup, and commitment. It was released on May 12, 2017, around the same time as the blockbuster “Baahubali: The Conclusion,” starring Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
