More than 24,000 Indian-Americans have signed up to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly anticipated event in New York, which is set to take place on Sunday, September 22. The event, titled ‘Modi and US: Progress Together,’ will be held at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, a venue with a seating capacity of 15,000, as per a report from indiandiaspora.org.
The overwhelming number of registrations has come through 590 community organizations, referred to as ‘Welcome Partners.’ This occasion marks PM Modi’s return to New York to address the Indian diaspora, a decade after his historic speech at Madison Square Garden in 2014. The event will showcase the diversity and success of the Indian-American community, welcoming attendees from various religious and linguistic backgrounds, including Jewish, Zoroastrian, Christian, Sikh, Muslim, and Hindu communities. Participants will include speakers of Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil, and more.
Apart from PM Modi’s address, the program will feature cultural performances and appearances by prominent Indian-Americans from business, science, and the arts, highlighting the community’s contributions to both India and the US. The Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), the event’s organizer, emphasized the significance of reinforcing the strong bond between India and its diaspora in the United States.
An IACU representative expressed excitement over the immense response, particularly from the tri-state area, and shared their commitment to making the event as inclusive as possible, ensuring all registrants have an opportunity to participate in this historic moment. This event will mark PM Modi’s fifth address to the Indian diaspora in the US and takes place just weeks before the US Presidential election, where Democratic candidate Kamala Harris will face off against Republican Donald Trump.
