Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India and Jordan have the potential to transform geography into opportunity and opportunity into long-term growth by reviving historic trade routes and strengthening economic cooperation.
Speaking at the India-Jordan Business Forum in Amman, the Prime Minister highlighted Jordan’s strategic importance as a regional connector under the leadership of King Abdullah II. He said that deeper economic engagement between the two countries could unlock new avenues for trade and investment.
Prime Minister Modi said he held detailed discussions with King Abdullah II on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Emphasising the strength of existing ties, he noted that India is currently Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, underlining the solid foundation of the bilateral economic relationship.
“In the world of business, numbers have immense value. But we are here not just to count numbers, we are here to build a long-term relationship,” the Prime Minister said, stressing the importance of sustained engagement between businesses from both countries.
Recalling centuries-old trade links, Prime Minister Modi pointed out that goods once travelled from Gujarat to Europe through Petra. He said reviving these historic connections could serve as a powerful driver of future prosperity for both nations.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Jordan’s role in connecting different regions, noting that its geographic position can help expand cross-regional trade and economic partnerships. He said India and Jordan can work together to convert geographic advantages into engines of growth.
PM Modi said the outcomes of his visit reflect the growing depth of the India-Jordan partnership, with cooperation expanding across areas such as renewable energy, digital innovation, trade, investment and cultural exchange. He described the visit as an important step in strengthening ties between New Delhi and Amman and building a forward-looking economic relationship.
