The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial roster of 195 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, prompting the Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) in the US to launch its 2024 campaign. Their objective: assisting in securing 400 seats in the parliamentary polls. Among the nominees, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands for re-election from Varanasi, one of the 51 seats allocated to Uttar Pradesh.
Adapa Prasad, president of OFBJP USA, affirmed the Indian Diaspora’s support for the BJP, following a kick-off event attended by approximately 100 core members in a Maryland suburb of Washington DC.
The impending general elections, slated between April and May 2024, aim to elect 543 Lok Sabha members. Indian-American representatives provided insights into the political landscape of various Indian states during the event, highlighting achievements under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
With over 3,000 volunteers enlisted, OFBJP coordinates a spectrum of election-related activities, encompassing social media outreach, voter engagement, direct campaigning, and travel to India. Plans are underway to initiate approximately 2.5 million phone calls from the US to India, urging voters to support BJP and endorse Prime Minister Modi’s re-election bid.
Nationwide initiatives, including “Modi Ki Guarantee,” “Mohalla Chai Pe Charcha,” Car Rallies, and Holi Milan, are slated to galvanize support. Kanwaljeet Singh Soni, convenor of the Sikh affairs wing of OFBJP, expressed optimism, projecting a resounding victory with over 400 seats for Prime Minister Modi, citing his widespread popularity and transformative initiatives.
