In a powerful address at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, former President Barack Obama expressed confidence in a new era of leadership under Kamala Harris. He emphasized that the United States is primed for a fresh start with Harris at the helm, stating, “America is ready for a new chapter, and Kamala Harris is prepared to lead us into it.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Obama noted, “It has been 16 years since I accepted this party’s nomination for President. I can unequivocally say that one of my most crucial early decisions was choosing Joe Biden as my running mate. History will remember him as an exemplary president who stood firm for democracy in challenging times. I am honored to call him both my president and my friend.”
Obama also highlighted Harris’s record as a prosecutor, praising her relentless pursuit of justice against major banks and child abusers. After the home mortgage crisis, she advocated strongly for my administration to ensure that homeowners were treated fairly.
The former president underscored Harris and Tim Walz’s commitment to an inclusive America, stressing that their vision embraces all citizens. “Despite political rhetoric, most Americans recognize the need for mutual respect,” Obama said. He assured Democrats that Harris would address their concerns without favoritism, emphasizing that her leadership would be equitable and inclusive.
Obama concluded by acknowledging the global stakes of the upcoming election, noting, “The world is watching closely.” He also praised Walz for his dedication and service, describing him as a model politician whose background and values align with the needs of the community. In contrast, Obama criticized the Republican nominee, accusing him of viewing power merely as a tool for personal gain.
