NYC Mayor Eric Adams has proposed Meera Joshi, currently serving as Deputy Mayor for Operations, to join the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board. Additionally, Dan Garodnick, chair of the NYC Planning Commission, has been selected to join the board alongside Joshi. Adams expressed confidence in their ability to contribute to the MTA’s future success, aiming to enhance New York City’s transportation system for all residents.
Meera Joshi, known for her oversight of the city’s infrastructure and public realm as Deputy Mayor, has played a significant role in advancing street safety initiatives and enhancing public spaces across the five boroughs. Under her leadership, NYC experienced its second-safest year for pedestrians in 2023, with initiatives such as congestion pricing being effectively implemented.
In response to her nomination, Joshi expressed dedication to supporting the MTA’s fiscal and operational health during a critical period of transition. She emphasized her commitment to serving New Yorkers faithfully as a member of the MTA’s Board of Directors, highlighting the importance of public transit in the city’s economy and identity.
Prior to her current role, Joshi was nominated by President Joe Biden for the position of administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. She also served as chair and CEO of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, overseeing transportation regulation. Additionally, Joshi held roles in oversight and investigations, serving as inspector general of the NYC Department of Correction and as the first deputy executive director of the NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board, focusing on police misconduct allegations.
