NITI Aayog and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India have solidified their cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a collaborative framework across various domains. These domains encompass Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) localization, data-driven monitoring, Aspirational Districts and Blocks, and more. The MoU underscores their shared dedication to expediting progress toward the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
The MoU signing took place in the presence of Mr. B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, who observed the signing by Dr. Yogesh Suri, Senior Advisor (SDGs), and Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Representative of UNDP India.
Mr. B.V.R. Subrahmanyam acknowledged the evolving collaboration between NITI Aayog and UNDP, recognizing its growth over the years. With the scope of monitoring extending from districts to the block level, this partnership is poised to facilitate data-driven policy interventions and programmatic action. He looked forward to the partnership’s contribution to cooperative federalism, aligning with the spirit of the 2030 agenda.
Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Representative of UNDP India, emphasized the critical role of India’s leadership in making the SDGs a reality, particularly as the midpoint of the 2030 timeline approaches. She noted India’s substantial progress in nearly halving multidimensional poverty between 2015-16 and 2019-2021, highlighting that despite intricate challenges, accelerating progress toward the Goals is achievable.
