Former US ambassador Nikki Haley has taken a contrasting position amid calls for a truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict, diverging from the prevailing sentiment favoring Palestine.
During her visit to Israel alongside Israeli parliament member Dani Danon, Haley criticized the Biden administration for overlooking Hamas’s actions on October 7. She expressed her views in an article published in The New York Post, calling attention to the need for Israel’s decisive response to Hamas.
In her op-ed, Haley highlighted her recent trip to Israel and advocated for Israel to intensify its efforts against the terrorist organization Hamas. She stressed the importance of Israel completing its mission in Gaza and ensuring the safe return of all hostages.
Haley criticized both President Biden and members of Congress for their reluctance to supply Israel with necessary weapons while failing to adequately address the threat posed by Iran. She dismissed calls for a ceasefire, equating it to capitulation and arguing that it would only embolden terrorists.
She also condemned the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for their stance on Israel, asserting that any attack on Israel strengthens America’s enemies and should be met with consequences.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 36,000 Palestinians killed since Israel initiated its counteroffensive following a Hamas attack. Despite international pressure to halt the operation, the Israeli military remains determined to confront Hamas in southern Gaza.
However, efforts to pass a UN resolution supporting a ceasefire were stymied by Russia and China’s veto in the Security Council. Algeria, the council’s only Arab member, also signaled its reluctance to endorse the resolution, underscoring the challenges in achieving consensus on the matter.
