Neeraj Chopra has secured a spot in the final of the Javelin event at the Paris Olympics 2024 with an impressive first throw. The reigning Olympic champion launched his spear to an impressive 89.34 meters, instantly qualifying for the finals. Competing in Group B, this remarkable throw not only secured his place but also surpassed his season’s best of 88.36 meters, achieved at the Doha Diamond League in May 2024. As is often the case, Neeraj managed to clinch his spot on his very first attempt.
In parallel, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also advanced to the 12-man final, with a strong initial throw of 86.59 meters. The threshold for automatic qualification was set at 84 meters. However, Kishore Jena, another Indian contender, fell short of making it to the final. Competing in Group A, Jena’s best effort was 80.73 meters, landing him in the 9th position in his group. His subsequent attempts did not improve his standing, and his final throw of 80.21 meters failed to meet the required mark of 84 meters.
Out of the 32 athletes vying for a place in the final, only 12 advanced. Neeraj Chopra entered the competition without much competition history for the season but demonstrated his prowess with a stellar performance right from the start.
