Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with India’s contingent for the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday, inspiring them to bring honor to the nation. The interaction took place at the Prime Minister’s residence, with some athletes joining via video conferencing, including Olympic medalists PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
During the session, PM Modi focused on encouraging debutants participating in the multi-sport event, assuring them of a warm reception upon winning medals. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high spirits and national pride, urging athletes not to let circumstances deter their progress.
PM Modi interacted with debutants including Ramita Jindal (air rifle shooting), Nikhat Zareen (boxing), and wrestlers Reetika Hooda and Antim Panghal.
In a video conference exchange, Neeraj Chopra updated PM Modi on his training in Germany, highlighting efforts to stay injury-free despite recent concerns. Neeraj expressed confidence and advised young athletes to remain fearless and self-assured for optimal performance.
Speaking from her experience, PV Sindhu shared her ambition to secure a gold medal in her third Olympic appearance, aiming to elevate her earlier silver and bronze achievements. She stressed the need for new athletes to treat the Olympics like any other tournament, stay focused, and give their best effort.
Nikhat Zareen, making her Olympic debut in 50 kg boxing, conveyed her excitement and determination to meet the nation’s expectations, aiming to make India proud.
The Paris Olympics 2024 are scheduled from July 26 to August 11, with India striving to surpass its impressive performance of seven medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, including a gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.
