Indian-American photojournalist, author, and filmmaker, Sandesh V. Kadur, has been appointed to the National Geographic Society board of trustees. Hailing from Bangalore, Kadur is a renowned National Geographic Explorer, celebrated for his award-winning animal documentaries. Joining distinguished members like Evan G. Greenberg, John K. Delaney, and Kate Brandt, Kadur contributes his expertise to advance the society’s commitment to science, exploration, education, and storytelling.
The new board members, each bringing unique specializations, aim to enhance the organization’s understanding of the world. Jean Case, the society board chair, expressed delight in welcoming these individuals, emphasizing their contributions to the society’s global community of explorers, spanning scientists, environmentalists, educators, technologists, and storytellers.
Established in 2022, the two-year role is exclusively for extraordinary National Geographic Explorers, like Kadur, recognized as significant change agents and recipients of society financing for purpose-driven projects. Paula Kahumbu, a wildlife environmentalist from Nairobi, Kenya, was the inaugural Explore Trustee.
Sandesh V. Kadur, renowned for his films on National Geographic, BBC, Netflix, Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet, recently contributed to “Our Planet” for Netflix and “The Okavango Experience,” a 360-degree virtual reality series. His impactful work extends to co-authoring books like “Sahyadris: India’s Western Ghats—A Vanishing Heritage” and “Himalaya—Mountains of Life,” which played a role in recognizing the Western Ghats as a World Heritage Site.
