Infosys co-founder, Nandan Nilekani, has made a generous donation of $41.9 million to his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, in celebration of his 50-year association with the institution. Nilekani, who pursued a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at IIT Bombay starting in 1973, aims to support the development of world-class infrastructure, promote research in emerging engineering and technology fields, and foster a thriving ecosystem for deep tech startups at the institute.
This donation ranks as one of the largest contributions by an alumnus in India, adding to Nilekani’s previous donation of $11.4 million, bringing his total contribution to $53.3 million. Expressing his gratitude and commitment, Nilekani stated that IIT Bombay has been instrumental in shaping his life and serving as the foundation for his journey, and he is honored to contribute to its future development.
