Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the reopening of Nalanda University signifies the dawn of India’s ‘Golden Age’, asserting that its new campus will showcase India’s capabilities to the world. Inaugurating the campus in Rajgir, PM Modi expressed delight in visiting Nalanda shortly after assuming office for the third time as Prime Minister.
PM Modi described Nalanda not merely as a historical site but as a symbol of enduring knowledge, stating, “The revival of Nalanda will mark the beginning of India’s Golden Age.” He highlighted that the reawakening of Nalanda and the establishment of its new campus will introduce the world to India’s potential and prowess in education.
The Prime Minister underscored Nalanda’s significance beyond India’s revival, emphasizing its historical ties to various countries across Asia. He acknowledged the collaboration of partner nations in reconstructing Nalanda University, extending gratitude to these friendly countries.
PM Modi portrayed Nalanda as a hub of ancient Indian educational excellence where students from diverse backgrounds pursued knowledge without regard to nationality. He noted that education transcends borders and shapes thoughts and behaviors, echoing the inclusive spirit of ancient Nalanda.
Highlighting the global reach of Yoga Day on June 21, PM Modi celebrated India’s heritage of diverse yoga traditions, which have gained international acceptance without monopolization. He envisioned India as a global center of education and knowledge, emphasizing sustainable development and India’s contribution to global initiatives like Mission Life.
The Prime Minister highlighted Nalanda University’s innovative approach as India’s first ‘Net Zero’ campus, designed to have zero energy consumption, zero emissions, and zero waste. He emphasized the university’s role in cultural exchange, archival documentation, and fostering collaboration among ASEAN countries through the India University network.
Nalanda’s new campus boasts extensive facilities, including academic blocks, auditoriums, hostels, an international center, amphitheater, faculty club, and sports complex. Designed as a ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus, it integrates sustainable features like solar plants, water treatment facilities, and extensive water bodies.
The university, a joint initiative of India and East Asia Summit countries, holds deep historical significance and aims to become a pivotal institution in the 21st century Asian renaissance.
