As India’s Greatest Motion Picture, Mughal-E-Azam, is now set to storm American cities as a grand musical in a three-month-long tour, the team gave a glimpse of the show with the performance of an iconic song from the movie at Times Square in New York on Wednesday.
The Mughal-E-Azam musical will be performed in major cities that include New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Seattle. The Indian musical sensation Mughal-e-Azam will have its opening show of its North American tour at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. The team will have three performances this weekend.
Based on the iconic 1960 Bollywood blockbuster of the same name, the play is the first of its kind on Broadway and is a musical phenomenon from India. As we all know how much Americans love Broadway, it is needless to say how much they are going to enjoy this musical epic.
The stage version of “Mughal-e-Azam” premiered to rave reviews in Mumbai in 2016 and has since played international cities including Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. Following its opening weekend in Atlanta, the North American tour is scheduled to play cities including New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Seattle.
Directed by Feroz Abbas Khan and produced by Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the musical centers on the love story between a prince and a court dancer, a relationship that angers the prince’s father and leads to conflict between the two. When the original movie by K. Asif first debuted in theaters in 1960, it was a huge hit, breaking box office records and going on to become one of the most significant and influential Indian movies in history.
The play showcases India’s rich culture of Kathak dances and classical music intertwined in a legendary love story.
