The Mood of the Nation survey conducted by CVoter and the India Today group indicates that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are perceived as the most suitable leaders to succeed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It credits Modi’s charismatic appeal for driving the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to success in past Assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Projections from the survey suggest that the NDA is likely to secure 335 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, marking a decrease from its previous tally of 353 seats in 2019. Conversely, the INDIA bloc is expected to win 166 seats. Amid speculation regarding Modi’s potential third term, the survey highlights questions about the BJP’s leadership post his tenure.
According to the survey, 29 percent of respondents view Union Home Minister Amit Shah as the most fitting successor to PM Modi, while 25 percent favor Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari ranks third with 16 percent support.
The survey forecasts a dominant performance by the NDA in North India, with strong showings in the East and West regions. However, it anticipates competitive opposition in the South. The government is seen to benefit from initiatives such as the Ram Mandir construction, Article 370 abrogation, and COVID-19 management, despite challenges like unemployment.
In terms of vote share, the survey predicts a 45 percent share for the NDA and 38 percent for the INDIA bloc. Party-wise, it estimates a 40 percent vote share for the BJP and 19 percent for the Congress.
