The Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), a prestigious publication in the information systems domain, has announced the appointment of Indian-American scholar Monideepa Tarafdar as its new editor-in-chief, beginning September 1, 2024.
Tarafdar will take over from Dorothy E. Leidner, who has held the position since 2018. In her new role, Tarafdar will oversee the journal’s operations, including managing submissions, pre-prints, copy editing, and production. She will also spearhead updates to the journal’s logo, page template, website, and manuscript review system, among other responsibilities.
Reflecting on her upcoming role, Tarafdar expressed, “I see my role as a steward, dedicated to fostering and promoting top-tier research in our field. I am excited to collaborate with my colleagues on the board to support innovative, relevant, and meticulously developed conceptual and empirical contributions to our discipline.”
Tarafdar holds the distinguished title of Charles J. Dockendorff Endowed Professor in Information Systems at the Isenberg School of Management. She is recognized as a leading figure in the information systems field, with extensive experience. Her research delves into the positive and negative effects of modern technology and artificial intelligence. Before her tenure at Isenberg, she served as a professor at Lancaster University Management School in the UK and held academic positions at the University of Toledo.
Additionally, Tarafdar has been a visiting scholar at renowned institutions such as the London School of Economics, MIT Sloan School, and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, where she earned her Ph.D. in management information systems, with a minor in strategic management.
