During the Uttarakhand Investors’ Summit in Dehradun, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his call for India’s millionaires and billionaires to choose destination weddings within the country rather than abroad. He proposed the launch of a new movement, ‘Wed in India,’ echoing the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Encouraging young couples to tie the knot in India, Modi emphasized the nation’s strength and capabilities. He questioned the trend of pairs formed by God going abroad for their new journey in married life, suggesting that at least one destination wedding should take place in Uttarakhand.
Addressing the audience, Modi said, “Have at least one destination wedding in Uttarakhand,” envisioning the hill state becoming a sought-after “destination wedding spot” if young people embrace this trend. He highlighted the potential positive impact on Uttarakhand’s infrastructure with 5,000 such weddings in a year.
This call aligns with Modi’s previous efforts, mentioned in his radio show Mann ki Baat, urging individuals to contribute to India’s growth by choosing domestic locations for significant life events like weddings.
