Israel holds deep admiration for India’s achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, according to Reuven Azar, Israel’s Ambassador to India. He emphasized Modi’s unwavering support, especially following the October 7 Hamas attack, and noted that both nations share similar perspectives and challenges, which will drive further cooperation in the coming years.
Azar described India as a rising global power that plays an increasingly vital role in Israel’s economy, not only as a trade partner but also as an essential part of supply chains. He credited the thriving India-Israel relationship to the strong leadership of Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlighting their shared focus on entrepreneurship, free markets, and economic reform. This synergy has led to collaboration in key areas, including defense, water management, and now, high-tech innovation.
Recently, a high-profile delegation of over 100 Israeli CEOs, led by Israel’s Minister of Economy and Industry Nir Barkat, visited India to strengthen business ties. The delegation included leaders from industries such as healthcare, cybersecurity, energy, and retail. Meetings with Indian businesses focused on fostering partnerships and exploring opportunities in infrastructure development, an area where India has significant expertise.
The two nations are also working together on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the development of Israel’s Haifa port as a key trade hub. Azar acknowledged India’s significant progress in improving connectivity and establishing resilient supply chains. He stressed that stable strategic alliances and security cooperation among Israel, Arab nations, and Gulf countries under U.S. support are crucial to executing these connectivity projects successfully.
Defense collaboration remains a cornerstone of the India-Israel partnership. Israel was among the first countries to align with India’s ‘Make in India’ policy, leading to the establishment of joint ventures producing advanced drones, autonomous helicopters, and ammunition on Indian soil. Israeli defense companies have also set up maintenance facilities in India, ensuring long-term cooperation. In agriculture, Israel’s technology has significantly boosted Indian farmers’ productivity, transforming the country into a net food exporter.
Azar emphasized that these partnerships, built on years of trust and collaboration, are poised for further growth, bringing innovation and strategic cooperation to new heights.
