Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the initial agreement under US President Donald Trump’s peace plan between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a significant step toward lasting stability in the region. The Indian Prime Minister highlighted the strong leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and expressed hope that the release of hostages and increased humanitarian assistance for Gaza would provide immediate relief and pave the way for durable peace.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”
This marks the second time PM Modi has publicly expressed support for the US-led initiative. On October 4, 2025, he praised Trump’s leadership and welcomed early signs that the plan could progress with the release of hostages. At that time, Modi also endorsed the announcement of Trump’s “Comprehensive Plan to end the Gaza Conflict,” calling it a workable approach to ensuring long-term security, peace, and development for both Palestinian and Israeli populations, as well as the broader West Asian region.
Under the first phase of Trump’s peace plan, Hamas has agreed to release all 20 living hostages in the coming days in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, while Israel will initiate a withdrawal of troops from most areas of Gaza. Trump described this development on social media, emphasizing that all hostages would be released soon and Israel’s withdrawal marked the first step toward a strong and lasting peace.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also welcomed the milestone, posting on social media, “With God’s help, we will bring them all home.” The agreement represents a significant breakthrough in the two-year Gaza conflict and lays the groundwork for broader diplomatic engagement and humanitarian support.
PM Modi’s endorsement underscores India’s support for peaceful resolutions in the Middle East and reflects the global importance of cooperation between international partners to facilitate stability, security, and humanitarian relief in conflict-affected regions.
