Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25 inaugurated the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a landmark national memorial created to celebrate the life, principles, and lasting influence of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The inauguration coincided with Vajpayee’s 101st birth anniversary, giving the occasion both symbolic and historical significance. Addressing the gathering, Modi described the memorial as a reflection of India’s enduring commitment to dignity, unity, and public service.
During his address, the prime minister extended Christmas greetings to people across India and around the world, expressing hope for peace and harmony. He noted that December 25 also marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, calling both leaders timeless contributors to India’s national journey. According to Modi, the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal stands as a reminder that collective efforts and ethical leadership are central to building a strong and developed nation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the ideals of leaders such as Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee continue to guide the country under Modi’s leadership. He highlighted social and economic progress achieved in recent years, stating that inclusive governance and the philosophy of Antyodaya have played a role in empowering millions of citizens and strengthening India’s foundation.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also addressed the event, praising Modi for enhancing India’s global standing. He said the unveiling of statues dedicated to Mookerjee, Upadhyaya, and Vajpayee marked a proud moment for the nation and reinforced respect for leaders who shaped India’s political and ideological direction.
Following the ceremony, Modi and other senior leaders toured the museum within the complex, which presents the lives and contributions of these figures through immersive digital exhibits. Spread across 65 acres, the memorial was developed at an estimated cost of about 28 million dollars and is designed as a permanent national asset.
The Rashtriya Prerna Sthal also features towering bronze statues and a lotus-inspired museum structure covering nearly 98,000 square feet. Envisioned as a center for inspiration and learning, the complex aims to preserve leadership values, promote cultural awareness, and motivate future generations to serve the nation with integrity.
