The Indian diaspora in Melbourne has organized a special flight called “Modi Airways” in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second official visit to Australia. The flight will fly from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport to Sydney, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to speak at a community reception on May 23, 2023.
In earlier reports, 20,000 people from the diaspora were said to have registered for the event, but the number has subsequently increased. In collaboration with the Indian-Australian Diaspora Foundation, Qantas Airways chartered the special flight.
A ticket for the ‘Australia Welcomes Modi’ reception in Sydney, in-flight meals, Modi Airways swag, and a bus shuttle from Sydney airport to the event were all included in the AUD$249 price of the sold-out flight.
For the Indian community in Brisbane as well, all roads lead to Sydney, and they are prepared to go to the event aboard a bus known as the Modi Express Coach. It will leave Brisbane at 10 p.m. on May 22 and return on May 23, after the event, to its starting point.
On Tuesday, Modi will attend a lavish welcome ceremony at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena Stadium together with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese. Australia Today claimed that 177 passengers aboard a unique aircraft named “Modi Airways” from Melbourne to Sydney will be among the guests.
