Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Under Secretary Jeffrey Kessler in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to advance India-US cooperation in the fields of critical and emerging technologies. The two also discussed the early scheduling of the India-US Strategic Trade Dialogue to strengthen bilateral collaboration in the trade and tech sectors.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy in Washington stated, “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Under Secretary Jeffrey Kessler to advance India-US cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. They also discussed early convening of the India-US Strategic Trade Dialogue to deepen tech and trade collaboration.”
Misri is currently on a three-day visit to the United States, from May 27 to 29, where he is scheduled to meet with senior US officials to further key areas of bilateral cooperation.
According to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February 2025 trip to the US, during which both nations launched the India-US COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century.
The MEA stated that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Washington, D.C., from May 27–29, 2025, to meet senior U.S. officials, following up on the February launch of the India-U.S. COMPACT for the 21st Century.
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit earlier this year, India and the US unveiled a range of new initiatives aimed at deepening ties across sectors such as defence, trade, and advanced technology. The visit also marked Modi’s first to the US since President Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025. Modi was among the first world leaders to be hosted by the new administration, receiving the invitation within just three weeks of its formation.
