Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam announced on Friday that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the Guest of Honour at the nation’s upcoming National Day celebrations.
Addressing Parliament, Ramgoolam expressed his gratitude for hosting such a distinguished leader, emphasizing the significance of PM Modi’s visit, given his demanding schedule and recent diplomatic trips to Paris and the United States. He stated, “It is a great privilege for our nation to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi as our Guest of Honour. His presence, despite his international commitments, underscores the deep bond between our countries.”
Ramgoolam further highlighted that PM Modi’s participation is a testament to the enduring and close relationship between India and Mauritius. He remarked, “His visit reaffirms the strong and special ties that our nations share.”
Mauritius is set to celebrate its National Day next month, and PM Modi’s presence is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Earlier, in November 2024, Prime Minister Modi had extended warm congratulations to Dr. Navin Ramgoolam on his electoral victory in Mauritius. He expressed eagerness to work closely with him to deepen the unique partnership between the two nations.
Sharing his sentiments on X, PM Modi wrote, “Had a warm conversation with my friend @Ramgoolam_Dr, congratulating him on his historic victory. I wished him great success and invited him to visit India. Looking forward to strengthening our unique partnership.”
India and Mauritius share deep-rooted ties, shaped by historical, cultural, and demographic connections. A key factor in their special relationship is the Indian diaspora, which makes up nearly 70% of Mauritius’ 1.2 million population.
