Union Minister for Power, Manohar Lal, will represent India at the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) from October 7 to 10 in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. Hosted under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, the summit brings together energy ministers and senior officials from leading global economies to discuss critical energy issues such as energy security, clean cooking, and sustainable industrial growth.
During the meeting, Minister Lal will participate in key sessions focusing on “Energy Security, Clean Cooking, Affordable and Reliable Access” and “Sustainable Industrial Development.” These discussions aim to foster global cooperation to ensure equitable access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy — a fundamental driver of economic growth and a cornerstone for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
India is set to present its achievements in accelerating the energy transition, particularly its milestone of generating 50% of total power capacity from renewable sources — a target achieved well ahead of global timelines. This accomplishment underscores the nation’s dedication to a sustainable, resilient energy future and its leadership role in clean energy adoption.
Manohar Lal will also outline India’s strategies to expand energy access and affordability, particularly in rural and underserved areas. He is expected to emphasize that developing countries, despite contributing the least to global greenhouse gas emissions, face disproportionate climate impacts and therefore require enhanced international support for their transition efforts.
Reiterating India’s commitment to inclusive growth, the Minister will stress the importance of a just and collaborative approach to global energy transformation. His message will align with the broader vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” highlighting India’s focus on sustainable development, climate responsibility, and equitable access to modern energy solutions.
India’s participation at the ETMM demonstrates its proactive role in shaping global energy policies while sharing lessons and best practices in renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and sustainable industrial development.
