The Maha Kumbh Mela authorities are preparing to set four Guinness World Records through large-scale events aimed at cleanliness, sustainability, and community participation. The first attempt, scheduled for February 14, will see 15,000 sanitation workers collectively cleaning the ghats, surpassing the previous record set in Kumbh 2019 when 10,000 workers participated in a similar effort. This initiative will allow India to break its own record in sanitation efforts.
The second record-breaking event, set for February 15, will involve over 300 volunteers cleaning the water stream at Sangam, marking a new Guinness World Record.
On February 16, a fleet of 1,000 e-rickshaws will be operated simultaneously at the parade ground, establishing another world record. This follows a precedent set on February 28, 2019, when 500 buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) formed the largest parade of buses, covering a distance of 3.2 km on National Highway-19. This broke Abu Dhabi’s 2010 record of 390 buses.
The final world record attempt will take place on February 17, when 10,000 people will participate in a mass hand-printing event at the Ganga Pandal, aiming to create the largest handprint painting in eight hours. The current record, held by the Prayagraj Mela Authority from Kumbh 2019, involved 7,664 participants. By surpassing their previous achievement, the Maha Kumbh organizers will once again etch their name into the record books.
A team from the Guinness Book of World Records will oversee and verify all four record attempts. Vijay Kiran Anand, the District Magistrate of Maha Kumbh, confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed for these historic events. The record-breaking journey will commence with sanitation efforts, followed by river cleaning, e-rickshaw mobilization, and finally, the hand-printing activity.
